5G and 4G Explained in a Few Words

The present Generations of Wireless Communication Technology

5G is short for fifth generation wireless technology. It is the newest standard for cellular networks that promises to deliver much faster speeds and more reliable connections than previous generations of cellular technology.

4G, on the other hand, is short for fourth generation wireless technology. It is the most widely used standard for cellular networks. It offers speeds that are significantly faster than 3G, but not as fast as 5G.

The main difference between 5G and 4G is that 5G offers significantly faster speeds and more reliable connections than 4G. 5G also has lower latency, which means that it can provide a more responsive experience for users.

While 5G will use many of the same frequency bands as 4G LTE, it will also make use of higher frequency bands, which will require new hardware and infrastructure. The adoption of the 5G technology would ultimately lead to a reduced saturation of the 4G network.

Will the average user notice the difference between 5G and 4G

Short answer:

Not really. It might take a while before it is widely available as telecommunication providers are still struggling to make 4G accessible to the vast majority of their subscribers.

Longer answer:

The average user might never notice the difference in latency (responsiveness) between both generations. 4G is already sufficient for most categories of data user and is capable for video streaming users. However, 5G allows users to achieve faster download speed. It will also enable a new class of applications that require very high bandwidth and low latency, such as virtual reality and augmented reality.

There are lots of devices currently out that support 5G networks, phones such as iPhone 12, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, Huawei Nova 8 SE High Edition, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G etc. In addition, telecommunication companies like MTN Nigeria has started their roll out of 5G mobile network and devices. Other providers like Airtel Nigeria and Globacom Nigeria do not seem to support 5G at least for now.

iPhone 5 Excitement

Following Apple's official annoucement of the iPhone 5, the internet and smartphone market has been dominated by talks of the iPhone 5. Most people are of the opinion that the iPhone 5 isn't much of a game changer as it still has the same old iPhone look that's getting boring despite the change in screen size and also the fact that the iPhone has no news worthy feature. Verdict: Not buzz worthy iPhone 5 is slated to be released September 21st.

Featured Add-on: Adblock

Adblock is a content filtering add-on that enables a browser to block or eliminate ads(short for advertisement) on webpages which makes browsing sometimes annoying or less interesting. Ads causes distraction and other times slows down the loading of webpages as unwanted images and other contents ~still talking about ads~ are usually downloaded along with requested webpages. The downside of adblock is that it sometimes blocks innocent webpages but this happens on rare occasions. So if you are having problems with a particular webpage loading, you might want to temporarily disable it. Adblock can be installed as add-on any of the following browsers (listed in order of personal favourite); chrome, firefox, opera, safari and lastly ~ the browser used to download every other browser ~ internet explorer.

Introducing Nokia Asha 205

Thinking of buying a phone on a budget that also ensures your social online presence? The Nokia Asha 205 might just be what you really need. This QWERTY keyboard phone's design may not really be all that, but what's one to expect from a phone intentionally made affordable? A great bargain in my opinion as it wouldn't cost more than N1,000 to purchase this dual sim phone armed with features such as a dedicated Facebook button, threaded view sms ~Blackberry feel~, FM recording, in addition to being deeply socially integrated. It comes with a selection of popular social networking apps: Facebook, Twitter, eBuddy messenger, even Whatsapp(single SIM version). Definitely a phone to watch out for from Nokia.
